From humble beginnings to a bold new future—Rutherfords marks a major milestone.
Rutherfords has been a trusted name in Melbourne’s property market since 1959. Starting as a residential agency, Rutherfords & Co, in the South Eastern suburbs, we quickly saw a need for specialist knowledge in industrial property. That insight led us to expand, becoming one of Melbourne’s most trusted and respected industrial property agencies. In 2003, we evolved into Rutherfords Real Estate, continuing our reputation for professionalism and integrity.
A Legacy Built on Relationships and Results
As demand grew, so did our team. Our commitment to our clients has always driven our growth, with many returning to us time and again and referring us to others. In 2006, we relocated to Melbourne’s northern suburbs to better serve our expanding client base, and in 2009 we added property management services to our suite of support. It has become so important to our clients that it’s now the primary aspect of our business.
In recent years Rutherfords has moved from a family-driven business to a team-driven business with a broad network of talent, connections and opportunities.
However, we’re still a business with family at its heart. Four generations have worked within Rutherfords, ensuring our core values of integrity, transparency, humility and care have stayed true since day one

We have a long and proud history, but our most exciting chapter is still to come. In 2025, after 65 years in business, we have expanded from our Thomastown location and opened a purpose-built client experience centre in Laverton North. This new space allows us to provide an even higher level of service for our clients, and deepen our commitment to being the industrial property specialists of Melbourne’s North and West.

Our new purpose-built client experience centre in Laverton North is designed to make doing business in the West easier, it’s your place to meet clients, grab a coffee, print plans, or catch up on emails - without the need to head back into the city. Just pull up, walk in, and get to work.
Our new West office also means our team will be even better positioned to serve our clients, partners and community in Melbourne’s west.
